It is generally believed that birth control pills are beneficial in that it helps prevent uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, increases bone strength in some. It is unclear, however, what its effects may be with Breast Cancer, with no concrete data stating it increases the risk or no effect at all. In terms of fertility, there is no effect on overall fertility regardless of how long or short you've been on them or the total amount of times you've gone on them or off of them. Although most patients once they're off the pill will immediately resume ovulating, some will show a minor delay in their resumption of ovulation.

I was on Nuva Ring for five years. When I went off it, I was left with a MAJOR hormone imbalance. It took almost two years, and numerous rounds of HRT to get my hormones level. I will never again be on any form of BC, and I will strongly discourage my daughters, friends, and family from ever using hormone based birth control.
