Update from lab tests - fFN Test - trying not to stres

April 02, 2008

Sooooo yesterday's appt went great and cervix tightly closed. i'm still having contractions every 5 min (typically sometimes further apart, sometimes less, sometimes stong and then other times not) so my doctor proceeded with a test called fFN (fetal fibronectin) in which they swab the placenta for a hormone the babies put off if they may deliver soon. a Negative result means you will NOT deliver in the next two weeks but a positive isn't a true positive. It means i could go into labor now or 2 weeks or 2 months - there's no definitive that i will truly go into labor right away BUT there still is that chance of preterm birth.

It just is a stressful thought - why couldn't it be negative and ease my mind. as if the contractions weren't enough. So i started steriod injections today and will take another tomorrow to help with the girls lung development. I'm so thankful that they will try to save the girls if we deliver now. Our hospital is a tier 3 NICU so i have all the faith in the world that these babies will be given great care.

I'm working hard at staying positive and not stressing for the girls. i'm glad to have the shots and get their lungs growing.

Please pray for my lil girls and I will continue to pray for each and everyone of you!!

I know that your little girls are going to be just fine and that you and your dh and your doctors are going to do everything possible to ensure that they stay in there as long as possible. Please get your rest and stay off of your feet and try to do things to reduce your stress level. Again, I will keep you all in my prayers.

Hi Shelly,

I'm so sorry you are going through this but the same thing happened to a friend of mine who was pregnant with twin boys. She wasnt due until September and she started having contractions and actually started dialating. She was in the hospital for 5 days and she also took steroid injections. She was then on bed rest for the next 6 weeks. Had contractions off and on and by 5-6 weeks later they were completely gone and she was off bed rest and delivered them at her scheduled c-section. So please know the girls could stay inside for alot longer! Please try not to stress and I promise to keep you in and your gils in my prayers:) xoxo

i knew that you all would brighten my day and make me feel better. i have such great friends and support here as well as at home. i am so very blessed. I know we've still got a great shot at making it much further. I wish the news could've been different but you just never know! I am doing much better now - it was hard to try to deal with at first but i know it doesn't mean that labor will happen now. As each day goes by I will just be thankful! I am truly thankful to make it this far and the girls are still kicking like crazy. They are keeping my spirits up too!

Maria - i've heard some really great success stories too - thank you for sharing that! :)

thank you all for the prayers!

Shelly...Pls dont worry about the girls, My sister had the same thing happen with the triplets and they used steroids to promote lung maturity. She was put on bed rest and she delivered the triplets via c-section at 7 months....The NICU these days have amazing capabilites, they can do just about anything...Happy to report the triplets are all healthy and will be 2 in May....So please try not to worry that will only make it seem worse....Love you & the girls....

April 03, 2008

shelly - you are so strong!! What a rollercoaster the last 4 years have been for you...... and after the +HPT it just hasnt stopped. YOu are in my thoughts very often and just knowing that you will get thru this will help.

There is an end to it and the end is 2 gorgeous healthy princesses to hold.

Take care of yourself and those little babies, we are all pulling for you!

April 03, 2008

Thank you girls and Dr.Q for your responses!! Today I am doing better and esp after all the words of encouragement. It just wasn't ideal news but also grateful a positive doesn't truly mean labor is a definite early on. I am reassured by the tier 3 nicu as well - lots of babies get flown into it - I'm lucky I'll be right there!

THANK YOU ALL!!!!! I am so blessed to have you all and of course the beautiful little prinesses.
